Importing Data into the Data Library

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The data library is saved in a text file (DataLibrary.ii by default) or a Microsoft Excel File.

In order to import data from a text file, it is vitally important that the correct file structure is used. This file structure changes when new features are added to PowaMaster, so the easiest way to obtain the correct format is to:

1.From within the data library, select File/Save and click on Save,

2.Browse to a location where the file can be saved,

3.Give the file a unique name,

4.Make sure the "Save as type" is set to "Data Dictionary Files (*.ii)" and click Save

The saved file can then be opened with any text editor, such as Notepad, and the correct format obtained.

The various elements are separated by headers e.g. [CONDUCTOR].

If you want to import conductor data into PowaMaster, then you need to create a text file using Excel, Notepad or Text editor with the [CONDUCTOR] header and data separated by spaces.

The data must be in the correct format for the import to work correctly.

Once the data is corrected or added, the file can be saved and either imported into PowaMaster's existing data library, or opened as a new data library:

Opening the file selects it as a new, COMPLETE data library.

Importing the file appends the new data to the existing data library.

If the names of existing and new elements are conflicting then PowaMaster behaves as specified in the Options/General Tab-sheet:

If Update Library Data is checked then the data being imported will overwrite existing data.

If Warn on Data Conflicts is checked then PowaMaster will prompt the user for confirmation of overwriting existing conflicting data.
